BEGIN YOUR HOME BIRTH JOURNEY
-
For appropriately selected, low-risk pregnancies, planned homebirth with a qualified midwife and an established plan for emergency consultation and hospital transfer can be a reasonable birth option. Safety depends on individual health factors, careful screening, appropriate monitoring, and access to timely emergency care.
At Glow, your midwife will review your medical history, pregnancy, and individual circumstances to help determine whether homebirth is an appropriate option for you.
-
Home birth may be an option for individuals experiencing a healthy, low-risk pregnancy. Eligibility depends on several factors, including your medical history, pregnancy progress, and any conditions that may increase the risk of complications.
Your midwife will work with you to evaluate your individual circumstances and discuss whether home birth is a safe and appropriate choice.
-
We encourage you to reach out as early in pregnancy as possible. This allows time to review your health history, discuss your birth preferences, determine eligibility, and establish your care plan. If you're already receiving prenatal care elsewhere, you can still contact us to explore your options.
-
Your midwife will provide guidance on the supplies, space, and preparations needed for your birth. This may include preparing a comfortable birth space, gathering recommended supplies, and discussing your preferences for labor, delivery, and newborn care.
-
Your safety and your baby's well-being are always the priority. While many home births progress as planned, there are situations when additional medical care may be needed.
Your midwife will monitor labor and recognize when a hospital transfer is recommended. Glow will establish a transfer plan with you ahead of time so you understand what to expect if plans need to change.
-
Your midwife will provide labor support and clinical care according to your home birth care plan, including monitoring your progress and your baby's well-being. We want you to feel supported, informed, and cared for throughout your birth experience.
-
Water immersion may be an option during labor or birth, depending on your preferences, eligibility, available equipment, and your midwife's clinical protocols. Discuss this with your midwife during your birth planning appointments.
-
Yes! Postpartum care is an important part of the home birth experience. Your midwife will provide immediate postpartum support and follow-up care to help monitor your recovery, support feeding, and answer questions as you adjust to life with your new baby.
-
Yes. Newborn assessments and monitoring are part of the planned home birth care process. Your midwife will evaluate your baby's transition after birth and discuss any additional newborn care or screenings that may be needed.
-
Your midwife will assess your baby and recognize when additional medical evaluation or emergency care is needed. If a higher level of care is necessary, your established transfer plan will guide the next steps.
-
Glow Midwifery & Wellness will begin offering home birth services in January 2027. We encourage interested families to contact us ahead of time to learn more about eligibility, availability, and getting started.
-
The first step is reaching out to our team! We'll discuss your interest in home birth, answer your initial questions, and help you schedule your first appointment to learn more about our services and determine whether home birth may be a good fit.
